Description

Nino Negri Alpi Retiche Bianco IGT is an alpine white from Valtellina in northern Lombardy, made entirely from Nebbiolo vinified as a white wine.

Valtellina runs east to west along the Adda river, close to the Swiss border, and its vineyards are planted on steep, south-facing terraces between about 350 and 600 metres. The valley is known for red Nebbiolo, called Chiavennasca locally. Here the same grape is pressed gently so that no colour comes from the skins, then fermented in stainless steel and kept on its fine lees for a few months. Nino Negri was founded in Chiuro in 1897 and is the valley's best-known producer.

Fresh and mountain-grown, it suits lake fish, alpine cheeses, risotto and light antipasti; serve well chilled at around 10 degrees.
