Nino Negri Le Tense Sassella Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2021

Le Tense Sassella Valtellina Superiore DOCG is a refined expression of Nebbiolo (locally known as Chiavennasca) from the historic Sassella subzone in Valtellina, Lombardy. The name “Le Tense” dates back to the period of Swiss rule, when the finest vineyards were “tense” or protected by guards - highlighting the long-standing prestige of this site. Today, these vineyards remain among the most celebrated in the region, perched on steep, south-facing terraces carved into the rocky slopes of the Rhaetian Alps.

Grown between 300 and 450 metres above sea level on shallow, sandy soils held together by traditional dry-stone walls, the vines produce low yields of highly expressive fruit. In this alpine environment, Nebbiolo takes on a more lifted, elegant profile compared to its Piedmont counterparts, shaped by altitude, sunlight and mineral-rich soils.

This is a classic mountain Nebbiolo - structured yet graceful, with fine tannins, bright acidity and a strong sense of place, capturing the stony, sun-drenched character of Sassella in a poised and enduring style.
