O'Leary Walker Watervale Riesling 2013

O'Leary Walker Watervale Riesling is a Clare Valley Riesling from the Watervale sub-region, here offered with more than a decade of bottle age.

Watervale, at the southern end of the Clare Valley, is known for red soils over limestone and for Riesling with lime-driven purity and floral perfume. The winemaking pair behind the label have long made a Watervale bottling alongside their Polish Hill River wine, and this 2013 shows how well the style can age. On release it offered delicate lime and citrus, lemon and fennel, very fine acidity and great length; with age, Clare Riesling typically adds toasty, honeyed notes while holding its line of acid.

Serve lightly chilled so the aged character can show, with roast pork, chicken terrine or a mild curry.
