Description
Olivier Leflaive Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru is white Burgundy from one of the smallest grand crus of the Côte de Beaune, lying entirely within the commune of Puligny-Montrachet.
Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet covers a little under four hectares on the gentle mid-slope beside Bâtard-Montrachet and just below Le Montrachet itself, and it is shared among a considerable number of owners, so bottles are scarce. It lies wholly within Puligny-Montrachet, whereas Bâtard-Montrachet itself straddles the boundary with Chassagne-Montrachet. Olivier Leflaive established his maison in Puligny-Montrachet in 1984, having worked in the family domaine, and built it on carefully sourced fruit vinified in the village. The Chardonnay is fermented and matured in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood judged so that the site rather than the cask sets the tone.
Serve at around 12 degrees, ideally from a large glass, with turbot, scallops, poultry in a cream sauce or a fine Comté.
