Olivier Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets 2023

Olivier Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets is a premier cru white Burgundy from a small, high vineyard on the Volnay side of Meursault.

Les Caillerets sits at the top of the Meursault slope beside Volnay, at around 280 to 300 metres, facing south to south-east. Its thin, stony soils are fractured limestone broken into flat gravel, so the site drains quickly and keeps the wine taut. The parcel of just over a hectare was planted in 1985, farmed sustainably and picked entirely by hand. Whole grapes are pressed and settled, then both fermentations take place in oak barrels. Maturation runs to eighteen months: a year in barrel with about a quarter new oak, and six months in stainless steel.

Serve at around 12 to 14 degrees, and give it a quick decant if you're opening it young. It's lovely with turbot in beurre blanc, veal with morels or aged Comté, and should be at its best from 2026 into the mid-2030s.
