Description
Olivier Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Charmes comes from the largest of Meursault's premier crus, on the stretch of slope the village is most famous for.
Les Charmes lies on the southern side of Meursault, directly below Perrières and beside Genevrières, on the gentler mid-slope where stony limestone gives way to deeper and more generous soil. It is the biggest of the commune's premier crus and is commonly spoken of in two parts, the higher section sitting closer to its more austere neighbours above. Meursault has no grand cru, and vineyards of this standing are the reason many argue that it should. Olivier Leflaive established his maison in Puligny-Montrachet in 1984, working with his own vines and with fruit from growers, and premier cru Meursault is barrel fermented and matured on lees.
Give it five years or more if possible, and serve at around 12 degrees alongside lobster, veal or poultry in a cream sauce.
