Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain 2023

Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain is a fresh, mineral white Burgundy from the highest-sited premier cru in Puligny.

Champ Gain lies high on the hill between Saint-Aubin and the Truffières climat, at 300 to 350 metres, where calcareous clay soils and cooler air give the wines a tense, mineral edge. The vines average around 36 years old, are farmed sustainably and are picked entirely by hand. Whole grapes are pressed and settled for a day, then fermented in oak barrels, where malolactic also takes place. Maturation runs to eighteen months, with the barrel phase using only about 10 per cent new oak so the site's freshness stays in focus. It comes from a Puligny-based house that has specialised in the village's whites since 1984.

Enjoy it at 12 to 14 degrees with Basque-style chicken, seared scallops or herb-crusted white fish. It's approachable from 2026 and will develop well into the mid-2030s.
