Olivier Merlin Saint-Véran En Crèche 2020

Olivier Merlin Saint-Véran En Crèche is a single-vineyard Chardonnay from the appellation that wraps around Pouilly-Fuissé.

Saint-Véran was created in 1971 and covers Chardonnay grown in a handful of communes at the southern edge of the Mâconnais, in two blocks lying either side of Pouilly-Fuissé and on much the same limestone. That geography is the appeal of the appellation: the better parcels sit alongside a far more famous neighbour and cost considerably less. En Crèche is one such named parcel, bottled separately rather than blended. Olivier and Corinne Merlin took over the Domaine du Vieux Saint-Sorlin at La Roche Vineuse in 1987 and helped establish the idea that Mâconnais Chardonnay merits Côte d'Or handling, with whole-bunch pressing and ageing in barrel on lees; their son Théo now works alongside them.

Serve at around 11 degrees with grilled fish, chicken or goat's cheese; it drinks well young and will hold for several years.
