Opus One Overture 2022

Opus One Overture is the second wine of Opus One, the Oakville estate born from a partnership between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi.

Founded to bring a Bordeaux approach to Napa Valley Cabernet, the estate farms its own vineyards in Oakville, one of the valley's most celebrated stretches for Cabernet Sauvignon. Overture is drawn from selected estate parcels and gives an earlier-drinking view of the house style. The 2022 brings together all five classic Bordeaux varieties, led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, and spends time in barrel before release. Expect a lifted, perfumed wine of cherry and dark berry fruit, with fresh acidity keeping it lively and a long, rounded finish touched by mocha and black tea. It is approachable young yet built to age gracefully for years.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees, ideally after an hour in a decanter. Pair it with a dry-aged rib eye, lamb rack with rosemary, or a wedge of aged cheddar. It will reward careful cellaring over the next decade.
