Description
Oratoire St Martin Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs is a biodynamic blend from vines of more than 60 years in two of the commune’s steepest climats.
Oratoire Saint Martin’s vineyards sit on steep hillsides in two Cairanne climats, Saint-Martin and Les Douyes. Reserve des Seigneurs draws on both, chiefly from the yellow clay and limestone of Saint-Martin with a smaller contribution from the limestone-rich Les Douyes, and every vine involved is more than 60 years old. Yields can drop as low as 20 hectolitres per hectare depending on the season. The blend is Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah with a sprinkling of whole-bunch Carignan and Counoise, a mix that reflects the estate’s long-held preference for Mourvèdre and for older, less fashionable varieties. Fermentation is with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, after which the wine is matured for 12 months and bottled without fining or filtration, with only a touch of sulphur added at bottling.
Drinking well now and good for around eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb, beef daube or a hard sheep’s cheese.
