Description
Oratoire St Martin Côtes du Rhône Les P'tits Gars Blanc is a biodynamic southern Rhône white built on Clairette from the domaine's younger vines.
Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint Martin has been in the Alary family at Cairanne since 1692 and is farmed biodynamically. Whites are a small part of the southern Rhône picture, but Cairanne has a long tradition of them, and the estate has planted the region's classic white varieties alongside its reds. Les P'tits Gars Blanc is a recent addition to the range, composed of Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and a little Viognier, all assembled and raised in concrete vats rather than barrel so the fruit stays clean and direct. The idea behind it was straightforward: put the domaine's younger vines, and the slightly more generous yields they carry, to work in a charming, easy-drinking white rather than pushing them into the more serious cuvées. Clairette leads the blend and gives the wine its lift and low-alcohol freshness.
Best drunk young, within two or three years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, goat's cheese or a simple herbed chicken.
