Oratoire St Martin Côtes du Rhône Les P'tits Gars Blanc 2022

Oratoire St Martin Côtes du Rhône Les P'tits Gars Blanc is the domaine's entry white, built from its younger vines at Cairanne.

Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint-Martin has been in the Alary family since 1692 and farms biodynamically on the higher, cooler slopes above Cairanne in the southern Rhône. This cuvée sets out to use the estate's younger vines and their slightly more generous yields to make a white for everyday drinking, and it is bottled under the broader Côtes du Rhône appellation rather than Cairanne. The blend is Clairette with Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and a little Viognier. Even at this level the elevation of the sites tells, keeping the wine zesty and punchy rather than broad. Fermentation is wild and the wine is raised entirely in the domaine's concrete tanks, with no oak involved. The result carries more texture and food-friendly structure than the price and the entry-level billing would suggest.

Drink now and over the next two to three years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled chicken, seafood pasta or a soft goat's cheese.
