Description
Oratoire St Martin Côtes du Rhône Les P'tits Gars Rouge is a biodynamic old-vine Côtes du Rhône from a Cairanne estate.
This wine was previously bottled simply as the domaine's Côtes du Rhône and has been renamed Les P'tits Gars, 'the little mates', which is what the brothers Frédéric and François Alary were called around Cairanne as boys. Mature-vine Grenache makes up 60 per cent and Syrah 20, with the balance taken from Mourvèdre, Counoise, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Muscardin and Terret Noir, the last of these from newer plantings — an unusually complete roll-call of the southern Rhône's minor varieties. Despite those younger vines it is in effect an old-vine version of the estate's entry-level P'tit Martin, with correspondingly more depth, structure and savoury character. No small wood was used in the ageing and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration. The farming is biodynamic.
Drink it from now over five to eight years. Serve at 16°C with roast chicken, ratatouille or a charcuterie board.
