Description
Oratoire St Martin Côtes du Rhône Les P'tits Gars Rouge is the domaine's old-vine Côtes du Rhône, renamed after the childhood nickname of the two brothers who run it.
Les P'tits Gars, roughly the little mates, is what Frédéric and François Alary were called around Cairanne as boys; the wine was previously bottled simply as the domaine's Côtes du Rhône. It is made from mature-vine Grenache at sixty per cent and Syrah at twenty, with the balance from Mourvèdre, Counoise, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Muscardin and Terret Noir taken from newer plantings of massale selection sourced in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Despite those younger vines, it is essentially an old-vine version of the domaine's entry-level Côtes du Rhône, P'tit Martin, with correspondingly more depth, structure and savour. The estate is farmed biodynamically. No small wood was involved in the ageing and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.
Ready on release and good for five years. Serve at 16-18°C with grilled lamb cutlets, sausages or a lentil and vegetable stew.
