Description
Oratoire St Martin Côtes du Rhône Les P'tits Gars Rouge is a biodynamic mature-vine southern Rhône red from the Alary family at Cairanne.
Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint Martin has been in Alary hands at Cairanne since 1692, and the estate is farmed biodynamically. This cuvée was previously sold simply as the Côtes du Rhône; it now carries the name Les P'tits Gars, the local term for brothers Frédéric and François Alary when they were boys around the town. The blend is built on mature vines, 42 per cent Grenache Noir, 38 per cent Mourvèdre and 20 per cent Syrah, with small amounts of Counoise, Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Muscardin and Terret Noir from new plantings taken as massal selections from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Against the entry-level P'tit Martin, this offers greater depth, structure and savouriness. No small oak barrels were used in maturation and the wine was bottled without fining or filtration. It is deep yet fragrant, silky and sinewy, with sweet blueberry and herb character wrapped in snug tannins and vibrant freshness.
Drink over the next five to seven years. Serve at 16-18°C with lamb shoulder, herbed sausages or a ratatouille.
