Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Rosso 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Rosso is one of Italy's most celebrated reds, presented here in magnum from the Bolgheri estate of the same name.

Planted from the early 1980s on the coastal slopes of the Maremma, the property helped establish Bolgheri as a home for Cabernet and Merlot in Tuscany. Its position between the hills and the sea brings warm days, cooling breezes and a long, even ripening season. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with the fruit sorted by hand and each vineyard block vinified on its own. After fermentation the lots are moved to French oak barriques, assembled part-way through maturation and returned to barrel to finish, and the bottled wine is held back at the estate until it is ready to ship.

The larger format ages more slowly than a standard bottle, which makes a magnum a strong choice for the cellar or a milestone dinner. Give it time in a decanter, pour at 16 to 18 degrees, and match it with a rib of beef, roast venison or a rich mushroom ragù.
