Description
Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Rosso is the flagship wine of the Ornellaia estate on the Tuscan coast, a Bordeaux-style blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon.
The estate was founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori near the village of Bolgheri, a short distance from the Tyrrhenian Sea, and its first vintage was 1985. Today it belongs to the Frescobaldi family. Vineyards are planted on a mix of marine, alluvial and volcanic soils, and each parcel is picked by hand and fermented separately so the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot can be built from many components. The young wine matures in French oak barriques for around 18 months, then rests in bottle for a further year before release. Every vintage is given a name that sums up its character, and an artist is commissioned to interpret it.
Decant for an hour or two if opening young, and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It is a powerful yet polished red that suits bistecca alla fiorentina, slow-roasted lamb, braised beef or aged pecorino. Well stored, it will cellar for twenty years or more.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
