Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia DOC 2023

Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia DOC is the second wine of Ornellaia, a Merlot-led Bolgheri Rosso made by the same team from the same estate.

First produced in 1997, it is drawn mainly from the property's younger vineyards in Bolgheri, on Tuscany's Tyrrhenian coast, and receives the same attention as its bigger sibling. Bunches are hand harvested and sorted, and each variety and plot is fermented apart before the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are brought together. Maturation takes around 15 months in French oak barriques, only some of them new, followed by time in bottle before release. The result gives a clear picture of the estate style in a form that is ready to drink sooner.

Open it half an hour ahead and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. Its supple tannins make it easy to match with grilled lamb cutlets, pappardelle with ragù, roast duck or hard cheeses. Drink now or cellar for up to ten years.
