Ox Hardy Blewitt Springs Shiraz 2023

Ox Hardy Blewitt Springs Shiraz is a McLaren Vale Shiraz from the sandy, higher-altitude Blewitt Springs corner of the region.

Behind the label is Andrew 'Ox' Hardy, a fifth-generation member of the Hardy wine family, who works with his family's Upper Tintara vineyard in Blewitt Springs. The district sits in the higher, north-eastern part of McLaren Vale, where deep sands over clay tend to produce Shiraz with more perfume and finer tannins than the warmer valley floor. This wine is dark with purple hues, showing plum, dark cherry and a lift of blueberry, framed by spicy oak. The palate is fleshy through the middle, mixing dark and red fruits, with a well-structured tannin line to finish.

Best at around 16 to 18 degrees. Try it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder, beef and mushroom pie or smoky barbecued brisket. Enjoy it over the next five to eight years.
