Paolo Scavino Dolcetto d'Alba DOC 2022

Paolo Scavino Dolcetto d'Alba DOC is the everyday red of the Langhe, made by one of Barolo's most respected families.

Dolcetto's name means little sweet one, a reference to the grape rather than the wine, which is dry. Dolcetto ripens weeks before Nebbiolo and is traditionally planted on the cooler, less favoured slopes that would not bring Nebbiolo to full maturity, which makes it the wine growers in the Langhe drink at their own tables. The Dolcetto d'Alba DOC covers a broad swathe of hills around the town of Alba, taking in the Barolo and Barbaresco communes. Scavino has farmed from Castiglione Falletto since 1921, and the estate has been run by Enrico Scavino since the 1950s, now with his daughters Enrica and Elisa. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and bottled without oak ageing.

Serve lightly chilled, at around 15 degrees, with salumi, pizza, tomato-based pasta or a simple veal dish. It is made for drinking young rather than keeping.
