Description

Paolo Scavino Langhe Nebbiolo DOC is the more approachable face of the grape that makes Barolo, from a family at the centre of the appellation.

The Langhe DOC was created in the 1990s to give growers a home for Nebbiolo grown outside the boundaries or the ageing rules of Barolo and Barbaresco, and it has become one of the most useful denominations in Piedmont. The wines are made to be drunk far younger, with short ageing and no requirement for long cask maturation. Paolo Scavino has been a family estate at Castiglione Falletto since 1921; Enrico Scavino joined his father in 1951 and now works with his daughters Enrica and Elisa. Fermentation is in stainless steel, with a comparatively brief period of maturation before bottling.

Well suited to a midweek meal of risotto, roast chicken or pasta with meat sauce, served at around 17 degrees.
