Pas de Deux Coreografia 2019

Coreografia's Pas de Deux is a biodynamic Grenache and Carignan red from vines at 700 metres in the northernmost village of Montsant.

Montsant wraps around Priorat in southern Catalonia and shares much of its old-vine material without the licorella slate that defines its neighbour. Where the Terroir Sense Fronteres vineyards lie at Figuera and Capçanes in the south, this label takes Ester Peceric north to Cornudella de Montsant, the coolest and highest corner of the appellation. She works there with a close friend who farms what she calls a beautiful biodynamic garden at around 700 metres, where vines of fifty years and more are rooted in light red clay veined with gypsum. Winemaking follows infusion rather than extraction: nothing is destemmed, no oak is used, and any maceration is gentle and done by foot. The Grenache was co-fermented in amphorae with a little Grenache Gris from the same vineyard and the Carignan fermented in stainless steel, both with indigenous yeasts, each matured six months in its own vessel before blending and unfiltered bottling.

Drink over the next four or five years, ideally with a light chill. Good with grilled lamb, mushroom dishes or charcuterie; serve at 15-16°C.
