Description
Paul Bara Annonciade is the estate's tête de cuvée, seventy per cent Pinot Noir and thirty per cent Chardonnay from grand cru Bouzy alone.
Annonciade sits at the top of the Paul Bara range and is made only in the years the family judges worth setting aside for the long term. It is seventy per cent Pinot Noir and thirty per cent Chardonnay, all of it grand cru Bouzy, from a south facing slope on the Montagne de Reims where chalk sits under shallow topsoil. Bouzy's Pinot Noir is among the ripest in Champagne and supplies the weight; the Chardonnay is there for line rather than volume. The family has held these parcels since 1833. The wine spends well over a decade on lees in the cellars beneath the village and is disgorged with a dosage of four grams per litre, low enough to leave nothing hidden.
A wine of some maturity and considerable weight, it belongs at the table with roast poultry, mushroom dishes or aged cheese; serve at around twelve degrees.
