Description
Paul Bara Brut Réserve is the house cuvée of a Bouzy grower whose vineyards lie entirely within grand cru, offered here in half bottle.
Bouzy sits on the south facing flank of the Montagne de Reims and is one of the seventeen grand cru villages of Champagne, long valued for the ripeness and structure of its Pinot Noir. The Bara family has grown vines here since 1833 and today works around eleven hectares, all within the village boundary and predominantly planted to Pinot Noir, with Chardonnay on the cooler upper sections. Brut Réserve is the introduction to the house style: Pinot Noir led, blended with a proportion of Chardonnay and with reserve wine from earlier harvests, aged several years on lees in the chalk cellars beneath the village and finished with a dosage of six grams per litre.
Firm and savoury rather than airy, the half bottle suits a single serving with charcuterie or roast chicken; serve at around ten degrees.
