Description

Paul Gadenne Apremont La Grimpe Jacquère is an organically farmed Savoie white from two stony plots beneath Mount Granier.

Apremont is the best known of the Savoie crus and its wines are made from Jacquère, a variety that gives dry, low-alcohol whites of considerable cut. The soils here owe their character to the collapse of Mount Granier in the fourteenth century, which scattered limestone scree across the valley floor. Gadenne farms two organically tended plots in the commune, ten kilometres from Chignin, on stony ground where scree lies over deep limestone. The vines face south-east at 350 metres in the foothills of Granier itself, a peak of almost 2,000 metres. Fruit is picked by hand, fermented in stainless steel and bottled after eight months, with no oak at any stage, which leaves the wine's chalky, saline character undisturbed.

Drink young and cold with oysters, fondue or a green salad with goat's cheese. Serve at 10-12°C.
