Paul Gros Vosne-Romanée 'Aux Communes' 2023

Paul Gros Vosne-Romanée 'Aux Communes' is a medium-bodied red Burgundy from a single named parcel in the Côte de Nuits.

Home to La Tâche, Richebourg and Romanée-Conti, this is the most closely studied village in Burgundy, and its village-level vineyards live in their shadow. Limestone lies under clay and scree, deeper towards the road and thinner higher up. The wines are dark-fruited, spiced and silky, with a perfume that sets them apart from Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny. This lieu-dit is bottled separately, and village wines like it usually repay five to ten years in bottle.

Silky, with dark cherry, spice and fine tannin over a savoury base. Decant young bottles for an hour and serve at 16-17°C with duck, game, beef or aged hard cheese.
