Description
Pierre de Segonzac Cognac is a bright, fruit-driven cognac from the region's top cru, in the Charente in western France.
South of the town of Cognac, the soft chalky limestone of Grande Champagne, the innermost of the six crus, gives brandies of great finesse that mature slowly. The family estate sits at Segonzac, farming its own vines and distilling on the property. Early-picked Ugni Blanc makes a thin, dry, acidic base wine, which is double-distilled in Charentais copper pot stills over winter. This bottling comes from the younger stocks, with enough time in mostly Limousin oak to knit the spirit while keeping its grapey fruit.
Clean and fruity, with vine flowers, dried apricot and a gentle oak frame. Sip it neat at room temperature (18–20°C) from a tulip glass, or use it as the base for a classic cocktail. Dark chocolate or nuts on the side work well.
