Description

Pierre Luneau-Papin Clos de l'Allée Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie is an old-vine Melon de Bourgogne from a walled parcel beside the family cellars, aged sixteen months on lees.

Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sits inland from the Atlantic south east of Nantes, on a patchwork of granite, gneiss and gabbro that gives Melon de Bourgogne its cut. The clos is a walled parcel of older vines close to the Luneau-Papin cellars at Le Landreau, on sand and gravel over granite, and it has long been one of the family's named cuvees. The estate is certified organic and nine generations deep in the appellation. Fermentation happens in underground glass-lined vats, after which the wine rests on its fine lees without racking for sixteen months before being drawn straight off the lees into bottle. There is no oak and no malolactic fermentation.

Dry and delicately saline with a little more flesh than a standard Muscadet, it is at its best with oysters, clams and grilled white fish; serve chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees.
