Description
Pierre Luneau-Papin La Grange Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie is a dry Melon de Bourgogne aged seven months on its lees at one of the appellation's reference estates.
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine covers the country south east of Nantes, where Melon de Bourgogne grows on hard metamorphic and volcanic rock and the Atlantic keeps the growing season cool and long. Pierre Luneau-Papin, based at Le Landreau, is one of the appellation's benchmark producers; nine generations of the family have farmed here and the vineyards are worked organically. La Grange takes its name from a parcel on gneiss and follows the classic sur lie method: fermentation in the estate's glass-lined underground tanks, no racking, and the wine left undisturbed on its fine lees through winter, here for seven months, before being drawn straight off the lees into bottle. There is no oak and no malolactic fermentation.
Dry, light and saline with a faint prickle from the lees ageing, it is made for oysters, shellfish and simply grilled fish; serve well chilled at around 8 degrees.
