Description
Pierre Luneau-Papin Terre de Pierre Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur lie is a single-soil Melon de Bourgogne grown on orthogneiss and held eighteen months on its lees.
Terre de Pierre comes from vines planted on orthogneiss, one of the hardest of the several rock types that make up Muscadet Sèvre et Maine south east of Nantes. Pierre Luneau-Papin's family has worked at Le Landreau for nine generations, farms organically, and has done as much as anyone to show that Melon de Bourgogne can express a specific soil rather than simply a region. The wine ferments in the estate's underground glass-lined tanks and is then left undisturbed on its fine lees for eighteen months, roughly three times the appellation minimum, which builds texture and a saline depth without any recourse to oak. Malolactic fermentation is avoided so the acidity stays intact.
Dry, taut and more textured than most Muscadet, it stands up to roast chicken and richer fish dishes as well as oysters; serve at around 10 degrees rather than ice cold.
