Description
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Santenay La Comme Premier Cru is a red Burgundy from a premier cru site on the limestone slope above the village of Santenay.
Santenay is the last of the major villages of the Côte de Beaune, at its southern end where the escarpment turns west towards the Côte Chalonnaise. La Comme runs along the upper slope adjoining Les Gravières, on thin brown limestone soils carrying a good deal of stone, a site that gives Pinot Noir more structure and grip than the village land below it. Pierre-Yves Colin founded the domaine with his wife Caroline Morey after leaving his family estate at Chassagne-Montrachet, and works from a cellar at Saint-Aubin. Fruit is hand picked and sorted, fermented in the traditional Burgundian way with a cool maceration before fermentation begins, then raised in oak barrel of which only a modest proportion is new, and bottled with as little handling as possible.
Medium-bodied, firm and savoury in the way Santenay tends to be, it suits roast duck, game birds, mushroom dishes and washed-rind cheeses; serve at 15 to 16 degrees.
