Pitchfork Cabernet Merlot 2023

Pitchfork Cabernet Merlot is an easygoing Margaret River red that pairs Cabernet Sauvignon with the softness of Merlot.

This wine belongs to the everyday Pitchfork range from Hay Shed Hill, a long-established winery in the Wilyabrup district of Margaret River, Western Australia. The region's maritime climate, cooled by breezes off the Indian Ocean, suits Cabernet Sauvignon particularly well, giving ripe berry fruit and the hint of chocolate mint that many drinkers associate with the area. Merlot is blended in to fill out the middle of the palate and soften the edges, so the wine is round and fleshy with ripe, gentle tannins. It is made to be enjoyed young and is sealed under screw cap to keep the fruit fresh.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It suits a midweek steak, lamb cutlets or a mushroom and beef pie, and needs no decanting. Drink it over the next few years while the fruit is at its brightest.
