Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne Magnum is a large-format Marsanne and Roussanne blend from Harcourt North.

Harcourt North sits in Victoria's Bendigo zone, about an hour's drive north of the Macedon cellars, on pure sandy granitic soils in a mild climate; as good a place for Rhône varieties as Australia has. Picking waited for full ripeness and the pressing was firm, the juice going directly into 228- and 500-litre barrels, a concrete egg and a 220-litre glass Wineglobe to ferment and age on all its fine lees. Malolactic arrived unaided, and bottling followed in November 2024, unfined and unfiltered. A larger proportion of Roussanne this year adds to the lift, and in magnum the evolution will be slower still.

The opposite of the early-picked, tank-reared Marsanne most Australian producers make: broad, waxy and textural, with quince, nectarine and a saline granitic close. Serve at 13 degrees. Large format means a crowd, so roast pork, a tray of root vegetables, or a whole snapper.
