Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Marsanne Roussanne is a barrel-fermented Marsanne and Roussanne blend from Harcourt North.

About an hour's drive north of the Macedon cellars, Harcourt North sits in Bendigo on pure sandy granite under a mild climate, ground that suits Rhône varieties as well as anywhere in the country. Fruit was picked fully ripe, pressed firmly, then sent straight to 500- and 228-litre barrels, a concrete egg and a 220-litre glass Wineglobe to ferment and age on all its fine lees. Malolactic conversion happened naturally, and bottling took place in November 2024 with no fining or filtration. A larger share of Roussanne this year lifts the wine against the power the site delivers.

Nothing like the early-picked, inoculated, filtered Marsanne that dominates the category here: waxy, broad and mineral, with quince, nectarine and a salty close. Serve at 13 degrees in a decent-sized glass. Roast pork, chicken with tarragon or a plate of hard cheeses all work.
