Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Syrah 2023

Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Syrah is a floral, cool-vintage Syrah from the Lome vineyard at Harcourt North.

Third Syrah off this granite-rich site, and the most delicate of them, just touching 13 per cent. The 2023 season ran long and cool, ripening slowly enough that the team could pick at exactly the moment they wanted, and the balance of the wine follows from that. Sixty per cent whole bunches went in, and maturation lasted close to two years in large-format Stockinger casks of 500, 1,500 and 2,000 litres, with bottling in late February 2025. Perfume and finesse alongside genuine depth is the pattern at this address.

Very perfumed, with violet, rose and white pepper over crunchy red and blue fruit, fine tannin and a cool, mineral finish. Serve at 16 degrees, or a touch cooler in summer. Duck, lamb, or a mushroom and thyme tart.
