Place Of Changing Winds Heathcote Syrah No2 2020

Place of Changing Winds Heathcote Syrah No2 is a blend of Heathcote and Harcourt Syrah, offered here in 1.5-litre magnum.

The 2020 harvest was the first time fruit was taken from a new grower at Harcourt, on the granitic sands of Mount Alexander. Only a single fermenter was filled, as a test of the site, and that batch was blended with lighter declassified ferments from the Heathcote Syrah. Harcourt is the cooler of the two places and gives more savoury, spicier Syrah; from 2021 it earned a wine of its own. This is the earlier-drinking red of the range, and in magnum the development slows enough to make keeping it a few years worthwhile.

Highly aromatic already, with juicy blue fruit, violet and spice, a silky body, driving acid and a nip of graphite tannin. Serve at 16 degrees. A magnum suits a long table: roast chicken, sausages off the grill, or a baked ratatouille.
