Place of Changing Winds Heathcote Syrah No2 is a Victorian Syrah blending Heathcote and Harcourt fruit.

Harcourt entered the picture in 2020, when the team first took fruit from a new grower there, on the granitic sands of Mount Alexander. They filled a single fermenter to see what the site would do, then blended it with the lighter ferments declassified from the Heathcote Syrah. It proved worth pursuing: the cooler Harcourt ground gives a more savoury, spicier Syrah, and from 2021 onwards it has had a label to itself. This bottling, then, is the record of a trial that worked, and the most approachable red in the range that year.

Aromatic and juicy: blue fruit, violet, sweet spice, with silky texture, driving acid and a graphite nip at the close. Ready now. Serve at 16 degrees with grilled lamb, roast chicken or pasta with sausage and fennel.
