Place of Changing Winds Syrah No.2 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

Place of Changing Winds Syrah No.2 Magnum is a 1.5-litre bottling blended from Heathcote and Harcourt fruit.

Two-thirds Heathcote and one-third Harcourt, which pairs the Mount Camel Range's Cambrian red soils with the granitic sands on the foothills of Mount Alexander. This is the entry-point red in the range and gets the same detail as everything above it; even here there is genuine intensity and tannin to age on. Around 70 per cent whole bunches went into the ferment. The wine matured first in a range of casks, mostly large Stockinger, then rested in tank for the balance of its élevage before bottling in late December 2023. Magnum will hold it back longer again.

Spicy and cool in profile, with blue fruit, pepper and a dried-herb edge, fine tannin and a clean, savoury close. Ready young, and safe to cellar. Serve at 16 degrees. A magnum suits a crowd: barbecued lamb, sausages, or roast vegetables and freekeh.
