Place of Changing Winds Tradition Red 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Place of Changing Winds Tradition Red in magnum is a fifty-fifty blend of estate Pinot Noir and grower Syrah.

A cellar blend, in the old sense: the components are chosen after the fact, from what the vintage gives, and the wine is only made in years that warrant it. Half is Pinot Noir off the estate vines in the Macedon Ranges, half Syrah from Heathcote and Harcourt, with 80 per cent whole bunches in the ferments. Mostly seasoned oak, large and small, held it until bottling in December 2024. Fewer than 3,000 bottles were filled in total, so a magnum represents a real slice of the vintage, and the larger format will hold the perfume in place for years longer.

Brambly fruit, crushed spice and florals, with juicy acidity and tannin that stays out of the way. Approachable already, though it will reward a few years. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees with a shared roast, charcuterie or a Sunday lamb leg.
