Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia DOCG comes from Bussia, the great amphitheatre of vineyard above Monforte d'Alba that gives some of the most structured wine in the Barolo zone.

Aldo Conterno left the family firm in 1969 to set up on his own in the Bussia district of Monforte d'Alba, and the estate is now among the most admired in Piedmont. Bussia is one of the largest and most celebrated of the Barolo crus, a broad natural bowl of calcareous marl facing south and south west. This bottling is assembled from the estate's holdings across the site rather than from a single parcel. The Nebbiolo is of the Michet and Lampia subvarieties. Fermentation is long and unhurried, and the wine is raised in large Slavonian oak casks in the traditional Piedmontese manner before further ageing in bottle.

Serve at about 18 degrees with braised beef, game, mushrooms or aged cheese, and decant it an hour or two ahead; it will keep for many years.
