Description
Poderi Aldo Conterno Bussiador Langhe Chardonnay DOC is a barrel fermented white from an estate far better known for Barolo.
Aldo Conterno left the family firm in 1969 to set up on his own in the Bussia district of Monforte d'Alba, and the estate is now among the most admired in Piedmont. Chardonnay has been grown in the Langhe since the 1980s, when growers began planting it alongside their Nebbiolo, and it now has its own place under the Langhe DOC. Bussiador, whose name nods to the Bussia vineyard at the heart of the estate, is fermented and matured in French oak barrels with time on its lees, giving a white of some weight rather than a light aperitif style. It is a small production wine, something of a curiosity in a cellar otherwise devoted to Nebbiolo.
Serve at about 12 degrees with roast chicken, veal, richer fish dishes or a plate of hard alpine cheese.
