Poderi Aldo Conterno Il Favot Nebbiolo DOC is a Langhe Nebbiolo from a Barolo house at Monforte d'Alba, made in a more approachable register than the estate's crus.

Aldo Conterno left the family firm in 1969 to set up on his own in the Bussia district of Monforte d'Alba, and the estate is now among the most admired in Piedmont. Langhe Nebbiolo is the appellation that allows growers in the Barolo hills to bottle Nebbiolo without the long ageing the Barolo rules demand, and it is often drawn from younger vines or from parcels the producer chooses not to put into the grand wines. Il Favot is the estate's version, matured in French oak rather than the large Slavonian casks used for its Barolo, and released young. Nebbiolo is a late ripening variety that buds early and is picked last of all in Piedmont, usually well into October.

Serve at about 17 degrees with braised meat, mushroom risotto, salumi or a simple plate of pasta; it does not need the cellar time a Barolo asks for.
