Pol Roger Brut Réserve Non Vintage Balthazar 12L NV

Pol Roger Brut Réserve Non Vintage Balthazar is the Épernay house's signature champagne in a bottle holding the equivalent of sixteen standard ones.

Pol Roger has been owned by the same family since its founding in Épernay in 1849, and Brut Réserve is its calling card, blended in roughly equal thirds from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay across some thirty villages, with reserve wines from earlier years lending continuity. The house ages it well beyond the legal minimum in cellars running about thirty metres beneath the town, among the coldest and deepest in Champagne, and riddles every bottle by hand. Large formats such as this are slow and awkward to produce and few are made; the wine inside them also ages more slowly, because there is proportionally less oxygen to each measure of wine.

A Balthazar holds 12L and needs a stand and a second pair of hands to pour; allow several hours in an ice bath and serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
