Description
Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is the prestige cuvée of an independent Épernay house, made in tribute to its most famous customer.
Churchill drank Pol Roger for most of his adult life and became a friend of Odette Pol-Roger, whom he met in Paris after the liberation in 1944; he named a racehorse after the house. When he died in 1965 Pol Roger put a black border on the labels of bottles shipped to Britain, and in 1984 it released the first vintage of this cuvée, from the 1975 harvest. The blend is Pinot Noir dominant with Chardonnay, from grand cru vineyards the family has never disclosed, and it is made only in declared years. The wine spends close to a decade on its lees in the cold chalk cellars beneath Épernay before disgorgement.
Serve at around 10 degrees in a white wine glass with roast chicken, turbot or veal; it rewards further cellaring after release.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
