Poli Distillerie Jacopo Poli Amorosa di Settembre 'Vespaiolo' Grappa is distilled from the pomace of Vespaiola, a white grape grown around Breganze in the Veneto.

The Poli family have been distilling at Schiavon, below Bassano del Grappa in the Veneto, since 1898, and are now in their fourth generation. Vespaiola takes its name from the wasps, vespe in Italian, drawn to its sweet ripe bunches, and it is grown almost nowhere outside the Breganze area a short distance from the distillery. The grapes are picked in September, which gives this grappa its name, and the pomace left after pressing is taken to the still while it is still fresh. Poli distil in small copper stills heated by steam, working variety by variety in batches rather than continuously, an approach that keeps yields low and character high.

Serve at around 14 to 16 degrees in a small tulip glass at the end of a meal.
