Pooley Wines Butcher's Hill Riesling Cane Cut is a sweet Riesling from a single vineyard, made by cutting the canes to concentrate the grapes on the vine.

Pooley Wines is a family estate in the Coal River Valley near Richmond, north east of Hobart, where the Pooley family planted their first vines in the mid 1980s and a third generation now runs the business, with Anna Pooley making the wines. The Coal River Valley sits in the rain shadow of the hills around Hobart, making it one of the driest and sunniest corners of Tasmania, yet the island's cool maritime climate keeps ripening slow and acidity high. Butcher's Hill is a single vineyard near Richmond. For the cane-cut style, the fruiting canes are severed once the grapes are ripe and the bunches are left hanging to shrivel and dehydrate, concentrating sugar, acidity and flavour. The wine carries around 133 grams per litre of residual sugar and is bottled in a 375ml half bottle under screwcap.

Luscious yet fresh, it suits fruit tarts, blue cheese and pâté; serve chilled at around 8 degrees.
