Pooley Wines Chardonnay 2025

Pooley Wines Chardonnay is a cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay from the family's Coal River Valley vineyards.

Pooley Wines is a family estate in the Coal River Valley near Richmond, north east of Hobart, where the Pooley family planted their first vines in the mid 1980s and a third generation now runs the business, with Anna Pooley making the wines. The Coal River Valley sits in the rain shadow of the hills around Hobart, making it one of the driest and sunniest corners of Tasmania, yet the island's cool maritime climate keeps ripening slow and acidity high. Those conditions suit Chardonnay well, giving concentration and natural tension. The fruit is fermented and matured in French oak barrel, with lees contact to add texture and new oak kept restrained so the acidity and fruit stay in front. The wine is bottled under screwcap.

Taut and textural, it suits roast chicken, crab and soft cheeses; serve lightly chilled at around 11 degrees.
