Description
Pooley Wines JRD Syrah is a cool-climate Tasmanian Syrah from the family's Cooinda Vale vineyard in the Coal River Valley.
The Coal River Valley, north east of Hobart, is one of the warmest and driest corners of Tasmania, which makes it one of the few parts of the island where Syrah can ripen reliably. Pooley Wines is a family estate founded by Denis and Margaret Pooley and now run by the third generation, with Anna Pooley as winemaker. The JRD Syrah belongs to the black label reserve range and is grown on the Cooinda Vale vineyard at Campania. The long, cool season gives a Syrah of fine tannins and bright acidity, closer in style to the northern Rhône than to warm-climate Australian Shiraz. It is matured in French oak and sealed under screwcap.
Savoury and fine-grained, it pairs with lamb, game and charcuterie; serve at around 16 to 17 degrees.
