Porseleinberg Syrah 2022

Porseleinberg Syrah is a pure, mineral expression of Swartland schist from a benchmark Cape estate.

Owned by Boekenhoutskloof and farmed and made by Callie Louw, Porseleinberg lies on the rocky hills outside Riebeek-Kasteel in the Swartland. Low yields and ageing in concrete and large old casks keep the focus on the vineyard. 2022 was a challenging season with heatwaves and difficult ripening conditions, and the wine is restrained, linear and pure, with a dry, fresh finish. At 13.3% it is a lighter-framed Porseleinberg that should fill out with time in bottle.

Best given a few years in the cellar, or a long decant if opening soon. Serve at around 17 degrees with roast quail, lamb loin or a mushroom and truffle dish.
