Description

Proprietà Sperino Uvaggio Coste della Sesia is a fragrant Nebbiolo-based blend from the hills of northern Piedmont.

The estate sits at Lessona in Alto Piemonte, where Paolo De Marchi, long known for Isole e Olena in Chianti Classico, revived his family's old vineyards; his son Luca now runs the property. The soils here are acidic marine sands, which give wines of perfume and fine tannins. Uvaggio means a blend of grapes, and this one combines Nebbiolo with the local Vespolina and Croatina under the Coste della Sesia DOC. In 2022 a long, hot summer paused the vines' growth, and the wines came out lighter, fresher and more aromatic than expected, with alcohol more typical of a cooler year.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Its freshness makes it good company for mushroom risotto, vitello tonnato, salumi or roast veal. It is lovely now and will hold for several years.
